The reserve forms the northern extension of Serengeti National Park, creating one of the most important wildlife ecosystems on Earth. Vast rolling savannahs stretch toward the horizon, broken by iconic acacia trees and crossed by rivers that sustain wildlife throughout the year.
Several important rivers move through the reserve, including the Mara River and the Talek River. These waterways serve as year round wildlife magnets and become dramatic crossing points during the Great Migration.
The wide-open plains make wildlife viewing exceptionally rewarding because animals can often be spotted from long distances, whether resting beneath trees, grazing on the savannah or moving between river systems.
